About her

Melina Keswick

Melina Keswick

Born: September 26th, 1994

Passed on: February 13th, 2018

Melina Keswick was born on September 26th, 1994. The oldest of three girls, she took on the role of caring for her sisters at a very young age. She loved and fiercely protected her sisters living each day for them. Her incredible strength will continue through Alyssa and Hanna who will carry her in their hearts through every step of their journey.

Melina battled leukemia for nine unbelievably long years. Her team of doctors referred to her as a medical miracle bouncing back from setbacks. She braved through countless surgeries and projected a calm demeanour in spite of the pain she was struggling with. In true Melina fashion, when she was told she would have a 2-3 months to live, she championed through the last few months of her life crossing off "to-do's" on her list, writing her final words and wishes down for her friends and loved ones, and celebrating an "Epic Christmas", her most favourite time of the year.

Melina did not want to be defined by her illness and her positive spirit echoed this sentiment. She hated to be confined by boundaries and was passionate about life and living each day to the fullest. She dedicated her best to excel at her education and had high expectations pushing herself to challenge her limits. Melina had a unique way of expressing herself creatively and enjoyed "making a mess" as she described it. If you saw her with paint on her hands and marker stains on her fingers you knew she had a good day.

Although she was very reserved in nature, Melina found a way to touch hearts and leave a lasting impression. She had a rare smile that would light up the room. She cared deeply for those who were special to her and always put their needs ahead of her own. Being needed gave her a sense of purpose. Melina dedicated her time to volunteering at a retirement home, her presence will be greatly missed by the close friends she made there.

Melina had a free spirit that longed to explore. Her dream was to go to Prince Edward Island where her favourite book character materlized in the form of Anne Shirley. She never made it there in this life but her spirit will surely reach the red cliffs of the Island and the ocean she yearned to see.

During the last few weeks of her life, Melina had a comfort phrase that she would repeat, "everything will be okay". As we prepare to say goodbye to a beautiful soul who was taken away from us far too soon we know that in time everything will be okay.

A private family memorial gathering and funeral service will take place on Saturday February 17th at 11:00am.

In lieu of flowers, Melina had requested donations be made to a Cancer charity of your choice.
